I know personally, a big handful of people who’ve lost loved ones in the last two years from Covid. It’s so devastating anyway, it can be the hardest thing to deal with.
Everywhere we turn, people are grieving. What exactly is grief and is it something we all go through the same way? Are there stages? We’ve looked into this for our personal reasons, too. While complicated to grasp for some, grief is something that is collective with loss, yet individual. There are stages and very difficult emotions that come with loss.
In 1969, psychiatrist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross created what became known as the “five stages of grief.”
Denial
Anger
Bargaining
Depression
Acceptance
It can be a pet, family member or the loss of a way of life. Either way, when faced with loss, we can find ways to express our individual selves to help in dealing with things. While doing some research of our own, we came across something called anticipatory grief: When grief develops before it actually happens. Dealing with illness in a loved one for example, brings emotions of grief before the unfolding. It really stuck with me and then, I found a yoga instructor who specializes in this! And then, a music therapist! We don’t recommend replacing medical professionals, simply in addition to. Practices like these plus therapy with our team psychologist can be highly beneficial!
